From guitar buddies to composing colleagues:
The birth of Juri and Tuomas’s composing duo.
We are basically two guys from Espoo, Finland who took their respective routes in the music industry and ended up together pretty naturally. We are both guitar players and first bumped into each other as teenagers, occasionally shredding scales and arpeggios in the same neighbourhood. Juri made his career as a composer meanwhile Tuomas played guitar everywhere. A few years ago we hung out in the Berlinale Film Festival, later ended up in Juri’s and his brother’s film score session and built from that. Suddenly we were working on Renny Harlin’s take on the franchise series “Reunion 3: Singles Cruise”, splitting composing duties and acting as sounding boards for each other. This seemed remarkably natural, so we ended up working similarily on Jalmari Helander’s “SISU”-movie and after that Cinque Lee’s “A Rare Grand Alignment”. Composing can be a lonely sport so we are pretty lucky to have each other as support but also as critics. We like to work fast and with intuition, since film music is all about feeling it and enhancing the story. So far so good!
